A precise term
Sashimono is not a synonym for all Japanese woodwork.
It describes a tradition of precisely joined wooden furniture and objects, often assembled without visible nails. We use the word only when the construction and practitioner are genuinely connected to that tradition. For the wider network, we say shokunin: a skilled craftsperson.
